Ownership

FactSet’s Ownership section provides a dedicated workspace for analyzing who owns a company’s securities, how those holdings change over time, and how ownership structures compare across peers and sectors. It brings together institutional, mutual fund, insider/stakeholder, and float-related ownership data, updated from filings, investor reports, and other disclosures.

Ownership section of FactSet provides the following data:

  • Company Reports

  • Company Summary — A top-level summary of share ownership and float, including shares outstanding, total ownership, institutional and insider ownership, short interest, and breakdowns by investor type and activity.

  • Comprehensive Detail — Detailed ownership tables at the holder level, showing positions, percentage of shares outstanding, market value, activism flags, and reporting dates.
  • Historical Analysis — Time-series views of ownership metrics, tracking how institutional, mutual fund, insider, and stakeholder positions evolve across reporting periods.
  • Holder Type Trend — Trends in ownership by holder category (e.g., institutions, mutual funds, insiders, sovereign wealth funds, pension funds), highlighting shifts in the composition of the shareholder base.
  • Consolidated Share Class — Ownership aggregated across multiple share classes to provide a consolidated picture of investors’ stakes in the overall company.
  • Peer Analysis — Comparisons of ownership metrics across a selected peer group, showing differences in institutional participation, insider holdings, float levels, and concentration.
  • Insider Transactions Detail — Records of insider transactions (buys, sells, grants, exercises) with information on insiders, transaction size, price, and dates.
  • Ultimate Parent — Views of ownership and control at the ultimate-parent level, tracing relationships through corporate hierarchies.
  • Ownership Activity — Analytics on recent changes in positions (increases, decreases, new entrants, exits) across key holders and holder types.
  • Trend Analysis — Visual and tabular summaries of ownership trends, such as net active versus passive changes, position builds and reductions, and directional ownership shifts.
  • Peer Summary — Condensed peer-group ownership statistics that summarize institutional and insider participation, concentration, and float for each peer.
  • Holder Type Analysis — Breakdown of ownership across investor types, often including bar charts of position change by category and percentage of shares outstanding.

  • Comprehensive Detail (Holder) — Detailed position lists for a holder, showing all securities held, position sizes, percentage ownership, and reporting dates.
  • Historical Analysis (Holder) — Historical records of a holder’s positions and changes over time, useful for tracking investment behaviour and turnover.
  • Peer Analysis (Holder) — Comparisons of a holder’s portfolio profile to similar holders, highlighting differences in sector focus, concentration, or activity.
  • Sector / Industry — Sector- and industry-level breakdowns of a holder’s portfolio, showing how holdings are distributed across economic segments.
  • Holdings Activity — Reports of recent trades and position changes by the holder, including new positions, increases, decreases, and exits.
  • Portfolio Trend — Time-series views of a holder’s portfolio characteristics and exposures, summarizing how their investment profile has evolved.
